Ibeju Lekki cricket club’s unbeaten run was finally brought an end at the prestigious Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval on Sunday when the Iris Smart Technology-sponsored Super Four final came to an end with Government college Ibadan Old Boys Cricket Club winning by 33 runs.
GCIOB CC side won the toss and chose to bat first, scoring 215 runs in 48.2 overs with the captain of the national team Wale Adeoye posting 44 runs, while Kunle Adegbola scored 42 runs and Ramit Gill had 34 runs to his name. Joseph Ogunlola took 4 wickets, Sean Phillips 2 catches, 2wickets and 1 run-out while wicket keeper Ademola took 3 catches.
The unbeaten ILCC had it all to do in their innings as they crashed to 183 runs in 44.5 overs with Indian import Ramit Gill and Adeoye Wale both taking 3 wickets each while Adegbola Kunle had 1 catch as GCIOBCC ended their opponent's 12-match winning streak.
The champions of the regular season going into that game looked unbeatable, untouchable, indomitable and unsurmountable but had to bow to GCIOBCC who wanted it more and that sets the stage for another interesting battle this weekend at the 9th Express Discount Limited knockout series final which again pitches GCIOBCC against ILCC 1 in what cricket enthusiasts have tagged "supremacy or revenge".
If last weekend's super 4 final was thrilling and breathtaking, I guess that was just the tip of the iceberg. Certainly, this Sunday at T.B.S OVAL it's going to be fantastic.
