Week one saw only two games been played between Stallions and LACC and a work over of IMCC by GCI CC.
Action continued on the 12 th and 13 th of September as six matches were played *5 at TBS and 1 at BIS*.
Saturday 12 th September.
Pioneers took on Ibeju 2 in a rain destructed match which called for reduction in overs. Ibeju 2 won the toss and opted to field first. Pioneers posted 84 runs in 11 overs before the heavens opened up and match officials decided to end Pioneers innings in order to get a results. In reply, Ibeju 2 only managed 69 runs in 11 overs. Pioneers won by 15 runs.
The second game which was the star match of the day was between FGC Warri and Rocks CC of Abeokuta. In a match reduced to 15 overs, FGC put up a scored of 98 runs in 15 overs but the total was not enough to assure them victory as Rocks chased down and have 2 overs to spare. Adegbola Niyi scored 44 run not out as Rocks won by 8 wickets.
The third game for the day was between Dolphins and Ibeju 1. Dolphins won the toss and chose to bat first but only managed a low total of 52 runs in 15 overs for the loss of 8 wickets. Ibeju 1 replied by crossing the total after 7 overs and losing only 2 wickets. Ibeju 1won the match by 8 wickets.
Sunday 13 th September.
The weather was set and clear for thrilling finishes in both games held at TBS.
Pioneers took on FCC. FCC won the toss and put in Pioneers to bat. Captain Austin Areghan did not leave any stone unturn as he took on the FCC bowlers and giving his team a good chance by scoring 59 runs as his team posted a defendable total of 145 for the start of the season. The loss of two early wickets did not stop FCC from having a big chase as they are know for in this format, having scored the highest total of 200 in any T20 game in the country. Sukanmi Odedele's 48 could not pull it in for FCC as a brilliant
catch by Emmanuel Okwudili which accounted for Tope Olayinka s wicket was the braker for Pioneers as they sailed through to the Semi Finals slated for 20th September, 2009. Pioneers won by 3 runs as FCCended on 142 after 20 overs.
The second game of the day was between LACC and GCI. GCI batted first and scored 129 runs in 20 overs. LACC scored 112 runs in 20 overs. Ramit playing against his former team mates and Atoloye Tayo both scored 35 and 30 runs respectively for GCI as GCI set another promising and thrilling encounter against Pioneers next week Sunday, 20th September at 2pm.
The third match of the day was played at British International School Lagos. BIS CC took on Indo Pakistan Cricket Club. BIS were bowled out for 82 runs in 17 overs. IPCC chased and scored 84 runs in 14 overs. IPCC will be playing Ibeju 1 at TBS on Saturday 19 th September by 2pm.
The winner of the match will meet Rock CC of Abeokuta in the First Semi Finals of the Tournament on the 20 th by 10am at TBS Cricket Oval.
We could be seeing close to what we saw at this years Indian Premier League held in South Africa next week Sunday as all teams will be looking forward to setting up a first trophy for the season,DON’T BE INFORMED, COME SEE FOR YOURSELF………………..ITS GTA 20/20
