REPORT OF THE 8TH EDITION OF THE EDL LAGOS KNOCKOUT CRICKET TOURNAMENT, (APRIL 11 –MAY 24, 2009) .
PREAMBLE
The 8th edition of the EDL Lagos Knockout Cricket Tournament sponsored by Express Discount Limited was held from April 11- May 24, 2009, in Lagos. The matches were played at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval and Unilag Cricket Pitch. Twelve (12) teams participated in the tournament. Nigeria Under 19 Team participated for the first time.

MATCH RESULTS
Though eleven matches were scheduled to be played, only nine took place. Two did not hold as a result of walk over secured by Indo-Pakistan CC over Howzat Dolphins CC and another walk over secured by Rocks CC over Ibadan Municipal CC.
Match 1, April 11, GCI defeated FCC to secure a position in the quarterfinal. Match 2, April 13, Rocks CC walked over IMCC to advance to the quarterfinal.
Match 3, April 18, debutant Nigeria Under 19 defeated FGC Warri. Match 4, played on April 18, GCI defeated Pioneers to qualify for the semifinal.
Match 5, April 19, Rocks CC defeated Ibeju Lekki CC 1 to book a place in the semifinal. Match 6, April 26, Lagos Asians defeated Nigeria Under 19 to qualfy for the semifinal.
Match 7, May 3, Indo-Pakistan CC walked over Howzat Dolphins to advance to the semifinal.
Match 8, (1st Semifinal) played on May 3, Rocks CC defeated Lagos Asians to qualify for the final. Match 9 (2nd Semifinal) held on May 10, GCI CC defeated Indo-Pakistan to book a ticket to the final.
Match 10, finals of the tourney, May 24, GC1 CC defeated Rocks CC thus becoming the tournament champion for the 2009 8th edition.
GCI CC went home with a trophy, Winner’s Shield and Cash Prize of N60,000.00 while Rocks CC went away with the Runner Up Shield and Cash Prize of N40,000.00.
Kunle Adegbola (Rocks) was voted Batsman of the series, Joshua Ogunlola won the Bowler of the series award, A. Shittu (GCI) bagged the Wicket Keeper of the series award, Thomas Eze (GCI) won the Fieldsman of the series Tayo Okusanya (GCI) won the Man of the Final Match as well as the S.B. Agodo Cricketer of the series award.
APPRAISAL OF THE TOURNAMENT ORGANISATION
Match venues were well prepared, Officials took charge of proceedings in very professional manner, catering and logistic support was excellent.
The tournament sponsor added colour to the finals with bouncing castles for the kids, corporate hospitality tent for its customers, music etc.
SPONSORSHIP PACKAGE
The sum of N1,530,000.00 was received as sponsorship package and total expenses amounted to N1,443,950. 00.
PUBLICITY
The media coverage was excellent. Match results were published in the major national dailies and broadcast in the electronic media. The daily papers that reported the matches are: The Guardian, Thisday, The Mirror, PM News, Compass, National Life and The Sun. The electronic media houses that provided coverage are: Brila FM, Rhythm 93.7 FM , Radio Nigeria and Unilag FM.
LSCA MERIT AWARD
Five distinguished cricketers and cricket administrators received the 2009 LSCA Merit Award. The Awardees are: Yomi Gaffar ( DYAKS CC), Ladi Elliot (posthumous), (Ex- International, West Africa, Lagos & LACC), Prince Bayo Balogun (Chairman & Financier of Ibeju Lekki CC).
Others are, James Efekodo (Wanders' CC & Team Manager, Lagos Cricket Team, 1970) and Kofi Sagoe, 9ex International, Lagos, West Africa, LACC, FCC).
CONCLUSION
The Lagos State Cricket Association (LSCA) has continued to improve with every other edition of the tourney since inception.
