The Nigeria Cricket Federation has named three Nigerian squads that will participate
at three different tournaments during the months of April and May.
For the North-West Africa(NWA) U-13 tournament scheduled from 18th to 26th April,
2009, the NCF has named a 10-man squad that is being coached by Onome Oghene-
kevwe. According to the NCF scribe, Adokiye Dans, the squad is comprised of the
following players; Olakunle Awosanmi (Captain) Sesan Adedeji (Vice-captain), Mojeed
Adiamo, Daniel Ajekun, Peter Areghan, James Dieke, Oluwaseun Ekundayo, Rilwan
Oyenuga, Shakiru Sadiku and Mustapha Yusuff.
The tournament is an 8-a-side tournament and Nigeria will contest with hosts Ghana,
Cameroon, Gambia and Sierra Leone. The squad would be accompanied by the Secretary.
Also named is the Nigerian U-19 squad that will participate in the U-19 Cricket World
Cup Qualifiers(CWCQ) taking place in Zambia from 26th April to 5th May, 2009.
The squad comprises of 14 players as follows; Abiodun Abioye (Captain), James Chukwu
(Vice-Captain), Usman Bankole, Rotimi Adesanya, Oluwafemi Oguntoke, Clement
Amanokhai, Prosper Mgbanwa, Benjamin Anyia, Frank Omozejele, Traishik Akuli, Ayo
Mene-Ejegi, Varun Behani, Olumide Adeniran and Abiodun Ajani.
The team is coached by Uthe Ogbimi, a former Nigerian international and will be accompanied
by the NCF Secretary.
In continuation of the preparation for the tournament, the team which finished fifth out
Of seven clubs in division 2 of the CCC League will travel to Ghana over the Easter holiday
to play back-to-back matches against the Ghanaian U-19 team which finished second by
net run rate to Sierra Leone in the recently concluded Affiliate Qualifiers that held in
Mozambique. Thus Sierra Leone qualified for the Associate tournament in Zambia by
winning the Affiliate qualifiers.
The Nigerian U-19 team will compete with a strong field of Namibia, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania,
Botswana, Zambia and Sierra Leone.
Finally the NCF announced the senior team that will compete in Guernsey at the World Cricket
League Division 7 series(WCL 7) scheduled for between 17th to 25th May, 2009. The team will be
captained by Wale Adeoye and Endurance Ofem will be the Vice-Captain. Other members in the
14-man squad are Kunle Adegbola, Joshua Ogunlola, Haruna Thomas, Tope Olayinka, Demola
Onikoyi, Lekan Awolowo, Jide Bejide, Segun Olayinka, Emmanuel Okwudili, Chimezie Onwuzulike,
Seye Olympio and newcomer Saheed Akolade.
The team is coached by Ewa Henshaw, while Ladipo Idowu is retained as the Team Manager for
the assignment, whilst the Secretary completes the contingent.
The contingent is expected to depart to the UK for a 2-week training stint in South London before
Crossing over to Guernsey on the 15th May preparatory to the tournament that will feature host
Guernsey, Gibraltar, Bahrain, Suriname and Japan in addition to Nigeria.
