LAGOS, OGUN, SOUTH-EAST AND SOUTH-SOUTH ZONES QUALIFY FOR INDOMIE SECONDARY SCHOOLS CRICKET FINALS | (2009-03-13 )
Lagos, Ogun, South-East and South-South zones have qualified for the finals
of the inaugural National Secondary Schools Cricket Championships sponsored by Dufil
Prima Foods Plc producers of the household favourite Indomie Noodles.
The final matches which consist of two semi-finals, a third-place and a final match will
take place at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) oval from the 27th to the 29th March, 2009.
Matches have taken place all over the nation in Lagos, Abeokuta, Ibadan, Benin, Warri,
Owerri, Awka, Abuja and Kaduna in what is the NCF’s flagship tournament for secondary
Schools in the nation. The tournament which is organized by the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) commenced 28th November, 2008 in Lagos and started on a school basis before it moved to a zonal representation basis from the fourth out of five stages of competition. At the national zonal final stages which were completed over the last weekend, the six qualifying zones were divided into two venues with three zonal teams represented. At the Kaduna venue, Lagos, South-East and South-West zones locked horns with the results decided as follows: Lagos defeated South-West by 221 runs
Lagos Zone 251 runs for 4 wickets in 30 overs(Emmanuel Ukuneye 51, Prosper Mbanwa 39, Clement Amonokhai 39, Joshua Ayannaike 21)
South-West Zone 30 runs all out in 10 overs( Segun Ilori 4wkts, Muyideen Abdulrazak 3 wkts)
Lagos defeated South-East by 50 runs
Lagos Zone 121 runs for 6 wickets in 30 overs( Clement Amonokhai 44, Joshua Ayannaike 36)
South-East Zone 71 runs all out in 26.2 overs
South-East defeated South-West by 79 runs
South-East Zone 132 all out(Onwuachi. I 29, Odenigbo. E 22, Egbedeyi 2wickets for 15 runs, O. Awoniyi 2 wickets for 11 runs) South-West 53 runs all out( Onwuachi. I 3 wickets for 7 runs, C. Ejindu 2 wickets for 10 runs)
At the Awka venue, Ogun, South-South and North-West zones locked horns with the following results: Ogun defeated South-South by 7 runs
Ogun Zone 142 for 7 wickets in 30 overs(Ogunjimi 35, S. Adedeji 28*, M. Ayo 2 wkts for 17 runs, H. Kamari 2 for 18) South-South Zone 135 all out ( S. Adedeji 4 for 14
Ogun defeated North-West by 123 runs
Ogun Zone 190 runs for 8 wickets in 30 overs(James Chukwu 45, S Adedeji 39, Y.Gershon 2 for 18)
North-West Zone 67 all out ( Y. Gershon 23, S Adedeji 8 wickets for 26 runs)
South-South defeated North-West by 11 runs
South-South Zone 174 all out( Ome 31, A Samuel 3 for 23, O Godwin 2 for 10) North-West Zone 165 runs all out (Y. Gershon 33, O. Godwin 26, H Kamari 4 for 30). Since two zonal teams qualify from each venue, Lagos and South-East qualify from the Kaduna venue, while Ogun and South-South zonal teams qualify from the Awka venue.
