NIGERIA TO HOST NORTH-WEST AFRICA U-17 TOURNAMENT IN NOVEMBER | (2008-09-29 )

Nigeria will play host to the Africa Cricket Association (ACA)-sanctioned
North-West Africa U-17 tournament in November.
 
The tournament which the NCF has granted hosting rights to Ogun State
will be held between 3rd to 7th November, 2008 in Abeokuta among the
following; Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Mali, Sierra Leone, and hosts, Nigeria.
 
The NCF has confirmed that at least two venues will be used for the tourney,
the MKO Abiola Stadium Cricket Oval and the Abeokuta Sports Club with
the participants most likely to be quartered at the Gateway Hotels.
 
Invitations have been sent out to the five other countries and the booking
of their flights will be concluded after the holidays; while the NCF has
already requested for team-lists to be submitted for the purpose of flight
bookings.
 
In addition an information pack containing details regarding the tourney as
well playing conditions and the relevant age-matrix for the tournament have
also been despatched by the NCF.
 
The Tournament Organising Committee will be headed by Ewa Henshaw,
2nd NCF Vice-President and will include Adokiye Dans(NCF Secretary),
Ladipo Idowu(Chairman Ogun State Cricket Association and member,
NCF Technical Committee), Olisa Egwuatu(Regional Development Co-ordinator
for Noth-West Africa) among others.
 
The six teams have been divided into two groups with Group A having Nigeria,
Gambia and Cameroon while Group B has Sierra Leone, Ghana and Mali.
The format of the tourney will require a round-robin within the groups with
the first two teams in each group qualifying for the semi-finals.
 
The winners of the two semi-final matches will progress to the final while the
two losers will feature in the 3rd place match.
 
Participating countries are expected to start arriving from Friday October 31st,
2008 and are expected to commence departure on Saturday 8th November, 2008.
