NCF COMMENCES PREPARATION FOR WCL AFRICA DIVISION 2, ZAMBIA (AUG 20-24, 2008) | (2008-07-22 )

The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) has invited twenty-one cricketers

to commence preparation for the World Cricket League (WCL) Africa

division 2 tournament holding from the 20th to the 24th August, 2008

in Lusaka, Zambia.

 

The squad, primarily made up of the players that retained the North-West

Africa Cricket championships earlier in April includes: Wale Adeoye,

Endurance Ofem, Kunle Adegbola, Lekan Awolowo, Joshua Ogunlola,

Segun Olayinka, Tope Olayinka, Dolapo Gafar, Tayo Atoloye, Chimezie

Onwuzulike, Kelvin Agbonwanegbe, Thomas Haruna, Demola Onikoyi

and Jide Bejide. Others are Azeez Salako, Seun Odeku, Felix Chibuike,

Emmanuel Okwudili, Uthe Ogbimi, Saheed Akolade and Olympio.

 

The players started fitness drills from the 7th July and would complement

that with gym work until the 26th July when it is hoped that they will move

into a 14-day closed camp till the 8th August in Abeokuta. Between the 10th

and 18th August, the selected team comprising 14 players and two officials

will proceed for a training tour at the Easterns Cricket Union (ECU) Academy

in Benoni before they leave for Lusaka on the 19th August for the tournament.

 

The Nigerian team will be competing with Botswana, Mozambique, Zambia,

Ghana and Swaziland. Ghana and Swaziland had qualified for this tournament

by finishing first and second respectively at the WCL Africa division 3 tournament

that held immediately after the NWACC tourney.
