Nine young cricketers from Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone
are currently undergoing a North-West Africa wicketkeeper/batsman and spinner/batsman
Academy at the National Stadium, Abuja under the auspices of the Africa Cricket Association
ACA Development Programme for the region.
The cricketers are Mohammed Mansaray and Michael Kargbo from Sierra Leone, Rufus Ntiamoah
and James Vifah from Ghana, Peter Campbell and Wilfred Riley from Gambia, James Callaghan
from Cameroon and Biodun Shittu and Osita Onwuzulike from Nigeria.
The academy director is Ewa Henshaw, 2nd Vice-President of the NCF and he is being supported
by the Regional Development Co-ordinator, Olisa Egwuatu along with Kome Agodo as the wicketkeeper/
batsman facilitator and Okon Ukpong as the spinner/batsman facilitator.
Messrs Kome Agodo and Okon Ukpong both former captains of Nigeria also played for West Africa
in Kenya (1994) and In Malaysia (1997) at the ICC Trophy for Associate members after both
distinguishing themselves at the University of Ife, Oyo and Lagos State teams.
The academy which started last Monday will run till Friday 25th July, 2008. Mahamadou Diaby and
Keita Ibrahim both from Mali missed out because of flight technicalities whilst Chouamouvivan Fleury
of Cameroon sustained an injury that prevented him from making the trip with his colleague, James
Callaghan
