NCF conducts introductory coaching clinics in Ondo and Ekiti States. | (2008-03-08 )
The Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) last week conducted introductory
coaching clinics in two states in the South-West zone of the country.
The selected states were Ondo and Ekiti states and the clinics were
facilitated by the pair of Endurance Ofem and Basty Abiola-Cardoso.
The introductory coaching clinics are train-the-trainer programmes
directed at teachers and gamesmasters in secondary schools to
enable them pass the skills of the game of cricket to their wards.
In Ekiti State, fourteen (14) participants drawn from ten (10) schools in
Ado-Ekiti took part in the clinic which was held at the Olukayode Stadium
in the state capital.
Participating schools included:
1) Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti
2) All Souls Anglican Junior School, Ado-Ekiti
3) Baptist Comprehensive High School, Ado-Ekiti (Junior and Senior)
4) Government College, Ado-Ekiti
5) Muslim Senior College, Ado-Ekiti
6) CAC Comprehensive High School, Ado-Ekiti (Junior and Senior)
7) Ado Community Junior High School, Ado-Ekiti
In Ondo State, the clinic held at St Peters Unity Secondary School and had
seventeen (17) teachers/gamesmasters representing fifteen (15) schools
in attendance. The schools included:
1) Owo High School, Owo
2) St Peters Unity Secondary School, Akure
3) Anglican Grammar School, Iju
4) Anglican grammar School, Igbara-Oke
5) St Joseph’s Catholic Grammar School
The clinic was well imbibed and the Director of Sports, Ministry of Education, Mr
Samuel Patani promised that cricket will feature in the next edition of the state’s
schools sports competition. Attendance included two principals of schools in the
state capital, whilst Mr Remi Malumi, President of the National Schools Sports
Federation, Ondo State also participated keenly in the clinic.
At the end of each clinic, mini cricket equipment was distributed to the schools.
The introductory coaching clinic has been strategically conducted round the country
within the last two years to sow the seeds of the game as follows:
1) Kaduna, Kaduna State (North-West Zone) - 14th/15th March, 2006
2) Benin, Edo State (South-South Zone) - March, 2006
3) Awka, Anambra State (South-East Zone) - 5th/6th June, 2006
4) Maiduguri, Borno State (North-East) - 22nd-24th November, 2006
5) Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State (North-East) - 27th-29th, March, 2007
The NCF seeks to continue this programme on a quarterly basis in selected locations
round the country.
