NIGERIA QUALIFIES FOR WORLD CRICKET LEAGUE DIVISION 6. | (2011-05-09 )

Nigeria Senior National Cricket Team, today at the Botswana Cricket Association Oval 1, Gaborone, demolished host Botswana to qualify to play in the World Cricket League Division 6 to be held in Malaysia in August, 2011.  Nigeria won the match by 8 wickets by the Duckworth Lewis Method. Botswana had scored 123 all out and target was reduced to 120 runs when the game was delayed due to rains. Nigeria achieved the target in 25 overs. (This is the first time Nigeria will be beating Botswana).  The host team Botsawana  lost the toss and Nigeria elected to put them in to bat. With Nigeria’s bowlers attacking the wickets from the start of the innings, Botswana was all out for paltry 123 runs in 37.2 0vers.  Femi Oduyebo took 3 wickets for 21 runs in 7 overs, Sean Philips, 3 wickets for 10 runs in 6.2 overs, Joshua Ogunlola 2 wickets for 20 runs in 7 overs, Seye Olympio accounted for 1 wicket for 2 runs in  6 overs while Saheed Akolade took 1 wicket  for 25 runs in 6 overs.  Noor Ahmad (Botswana) scored 27 runs, Captain of the side, Akrum Chand was stopped at 28 runs, while Moses scored 24 runs.   Opening pair of Demola Onikoyi and Segun Olayinka set the tone on a high note  putting up a partnership of 71 runs before the wicket of Onikoyi fell in the 11th over after smashing 35 runs off 31 balls. Ramit Gill (5 not out) and Segun Olayinka finished off the match after Okwudili was dismissed for 11 runs. Segun Olayinka’s impressive  innings of 53 runs not out off 72 balls secured the deserved victory for Nigeria.
