HOST REMAINS UNBEATEN AT THE ICC/ACA U-15 BOYS CHAMPIONSHIP IN IBADAN

Nigeria continues to impress at the on-going North –West Africa region U-15 boys cricket competition after dispatching their Gambian opponents by 7 wickets at the University of Ibadan Cricket Ground.

Gambian Captain Gabriel Baldeh won the toss and elected to bat with his team scoring 61 runs  all out lost  in 21.4 overs owing to the superb bowling of the Nigerian side led by Adedeji Sesan (4 wickets,20 runs,1 maiden in 5.4 overs)while the trio of Henry Oko-Jaja,Kingsley Duru and Captain Awosanmi Kunle took 2 wickets each.

Ousman Bah scored 18 runs to emerge the best batsman for his side but was not enough to earn his team their 1st victory of the tournament.

Second innings saw a total of 37 extras from the Gambian bowlers who made things easy for the host as they made 62 runs for loss of 3 wickets in 14.4 overs.Kingsley Duru(11 runs not out)and Adedeji Sesan(9 runs not out) finished the game with 122 balls to spare.  

Speaking after their win against Gambia coach Seyi Sonde of Nigeria praised his boys saying” the win was expected after serious practice and hardwork”.The Ogun state born coach went further to identify Sierra-leone as their biggest threat but said they are just a bowling side while my team is made up of all-rounders and that gives us an edge over them”.

He went further to praise the standard of the competition saying” it is better than what happened in Ghana two years ago where mercenaries were used during the U-13 North-West Africa Cricket Competition”.

Following their loss to Nigeria David Prince Johnson coach of the Gambian U-15 team attributed their loss to the boys not coming with the winning mentality or where just afraid of playing the host.
